Doctor visits to worker houses

The factory workers belonging to the UHE group of companies come from low income households within the village and have little or no knowledge on healthy lifestyle and good hygiene. Their inability to follow a healthy lifestyle makes them fall prey to many illnesses and diseases; which also threaten the hygiene of the tea products manufactured at the factory.

Considering the long term effects of such lower levels of awareness amongst the workers, UHE Foundation initiated a project to educate workers about hygienic living and good habits that pave the way to a healthy life. The advisory services were provided by a licensed medical officer, who visited homes of the workers and advised them on how to keep a clean house and maintain a clean environment around the house.

Advise on correct methods to sort and dispose garbage, knowledge on how to create fertiliser with damp waste etc. were some of the essential knowledge shared with this community. With the rapid rise of dengue epidemic around the country, the awareness programme also included a timely and significant segment on preventing dengue by educating the community on methods that effectively lower mosquito breeding in the areas where the workers reside.
