Education for local students

As a part of our commitment to the welfare of the society, we at Halpé Tea organised an educational program to uplift the knowledge of the local school students in the area by giving them an overview of the tea industry, history and the production process.

The school kids were initially exposed to the Tea production process as we took them through each activity involves within the factory whilst giving them an understanding on the novel technologies currently in practice as opposed to traditional methods and practices. Also they were given an overview on the History of tea industry in Sri Lanka, importance of the tea industry for the development of the country and also the alternative means of tea as an ingredient to further broaden their knowledge on the subject.

One of the major contemporary issues faced by tea industry revolves around employee turnover and the tea industry been the least preferred choice among younger generation as a career option. This is one of the many issues that Halpé Tea is trying to address by organising awareness sessions such as these which targets local schools. We sincerely believe that these type of awareness will lead some of these children to join the tea industry and contribute in the areas of technology and productivity to keep this 150 year old tradition alive.
