The Kovil Ceremony

Many of the employees at Uva Halpewatte Tea Factory and the Estates are tamil and their religion is Hinduism and their place of worship is the Kovil (hindu temple). Among the factory premises there is a Hindu temple and we make sure to sponsor the upkeep and renovations that they require to keep this kovil in a good condition.

Once every year, they have a festival that is held for three days in which they perform various rituals and pray to god for prosperity, rain and for the well being of their community.

We highly respect their believes and the ways of their lives and therefore we stop all operations and close our tea factory for five days to make sure every one has the opportunity to participate in the festivities. Furthermore, we make sure to help them financially and any other means necessary, such as water, transportation, to carry out their festivities and to participate in them as much as possible.
