07 Jun Nutrition packs for expectant mothers
Attending the local pregnancy clinic is a monthly ritual followed by all expectant mothers in the village. At this clinic, mothers receive essential advice and guidance to ensure that they give birth to a healthy baby. Although the clinic sessions provide details on recommended nutritious diets, most of the expectant mothers participating in these sessions come from low income households which are unable to afford a healthy, nutritious diet on a daily basis.
The UHE foundation therefore launched a programme to distribute nutrition packs amongst 30-40 mothers attending this monthly clinic. The gift pack included nutritious dry rations such as; Red Rice, milk powder, lentils, chick peas, sprats, and soya based products along with essential hygiene products such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, and soap.
The ladies, who leave their homes early morning to attend the clinic on time, usually go hungry until they get back home to have a meal, therefore we served a healthy snack and a freshly brewed cup of tea to these mothers, ensuring they don’t go hungry during the entire morning on clinic days.
